Yingri Guan

Adventurous, curious and insightful by nature, Yingri Guan pays attention to global commonalities and differences between every existence. By analyzing and interpreting different patterns and forms, she creates physical visualizations through generative design and digital fabrication to promote understanding about deep and hidden connections. Working at the intersection of art, design, and technology, she seeks to bring truth to the surface.

She has spent the better part of a decade actively designing products that simply delight, programming experimental media and exhibiting art. She has exhibited work in China, US, Italy, Singapore, and India.

Light Installation by YINGRI GUAN

Cava Light Installation by YINGRI GUAN Through combining mathematical formulas, cave mineral structural formation angles, mineral composition data, a series of vector images were generated through computational design. Yingri Guan visualizes cave patterns through generative designs. She transforms these data into three-dimensional installations.

Art Installation by YINGRI GUAN

Crystals Art Installation by YINGRI GUAN This series of work involves generating complex fractal images based on detailed analysis of crystals’ chemical structure. By collecting data such as the distance between each element, angle of the chemical bonding and molecular mass of the crystalline structure, Yingri Guan transforms and abstracts the data into fractals through constructing a series of equations and formulas.

Art Installation by YINGRI GUAN

Ice Core Art Installation by YINGRI GUAN This installation project aims to explore and visualize the relationship between the level of carbon dioxide vs. global climate. A greyscale color scheme depicts the carbon dioxide variation over the last four hundred thousand years. In comparison, four tubes using a color scheme based on the weather map describe temperature variations. If more carbon dioxide is present in the global environment, the higher the temperature. Inversely, the lighter content indicates a lower carbon dioxide production and therefore followed by a generally colder climate.
