Pool Interactive Cover by Liao Jin-Zhi Pool is an interactive book cover created for a science publication. The design reinterprets the shape of algae through Chinese characters, and many algae forms are placed across the cover so readers connect with the topic at once. Doodles of different algae types are coated with spot varnish, which creates a watery reflection and a realistic texture. The doodles extend across the whole cover to form the image of a pond full of algae. Neon yellow and greenish tones show the variety of algae. A small matching quiz on the inner cover lets readers learn the names of algae.

Defy Communicative Visual Book by Liao Jin-Zhi Defy is a book cover design created for a published title about anarchism. A pair of glasses forms the main visual element and is coated with spot varnish to make the texture look more realistic. The cover and the belly band show common objects that people in Taiwan often use to build barricades, such as traffic cones, barrels and benches. Industrial packaging paper is used as the printing material. The color scheme of red, black and white suggests rebellion and revolution. The familiar objects link an abstract idea to daily life.
